With Volano I wanted to nudge the concept of spherical gravity a bit by creating a map that was longer in one direction, to get a more cylindrical feeling. I started out in forge with a huge shape and after a few attempts I had the whole asteroid shaped as a pear. The top of the smaller end looked a little like a volcano so I decided I wanted to make one. A volcano that isn't hollow would be no good volcano so I started from the top and dug a hole straight down. I realized that the whole would become immediately filled up as soon as a player got down here so to prevent that I dug an opening on the side.

From the outside, the opening looked like a cave entrance so I created a sloped path towards it and made two pillars, one on each side, next to it. Somehow I decided the pillars should look more like giant bones (as to follow the prehistoric theme of the map that I apparently was starting to get). Due to the angle the volcano had just above the cave entrance it kinda looked like a big mouth with a nose right above it. Moving further back, the two bone pillars I just made kinda looked like two hands rising out from the surface. With the asteroid beeing odd shaped already, the whole thing looked like a giant beast of some sort and so, Mr.Volano was born.

Moving on with the new concept that I had, I made the volcano wall vertical just above the nose and gave him one eye. I added two small angel wings on his back (to keep him floating!) and started fleshing out the rest of the map.

Volano can also be played in CTC mode (which isn't listed), but since the map is so small, the capture points are too close to eachother so it is not feasible.
